Smoker’s Guide To Coping with Smokefree Places
Cravings for a cigarette will pass. The trick is
to distract yourself, e.g. walk around; read a magazine; phone a friend;
take deep breaths, releasing each slowly.
Take only the number of cigarettes
you plan to smoke that day. Plan smoking breaks in advance. And keep
your cigarettes out of sight so they don’t trigger a desire to
smoke Have a bottle of water as well as healthy snacks on hand, e.g.
fruit, raw vegetables, plain
popcorn; drink water, tea or juice.
If you are thinking about stopping smoking
soon, ask your GP or Pharmacist about nicotine gum to help you cut down
to quit.
Phone the local NHS Stop Smoking Service 01709 302444

Discard your cigarette butts safely
What happens to a cigarette butt after it is casually flicked away?
They can get into the water supply & rivers, and soon pollute water
quality. Though one butt may seem small, with several trillion littered
yearly, toxic chemicals add up.
Cigarette butts take years to decompose. They poison, choke or starve animals & fish
who mistake them for food. Keeping streets clean of butts is difficult as they get into grates & cracks. Remember you may face a hefty fine for
littering. Be environmental friendly – discard cigarette butts in an
ashtray or cigarette bin.
